Captivating Capiz, The Province of Capiz is also known as the seafood capital of the Philippines. It occupies a land area of 2,633 square kilometers, representing 21% of the total land area of Panay. It is composed of 16 municipalities and a city with a total of 472 barangays. There is a legend about how Capiz got its name and it goes like this: Balingangan, Datu Bankaya’s eldest son, named his two territories Kapid and Akean (twin) in honor of his twin daughters Bulan and Adlaw (moon and sun). Spaniards who later settled in the area adopted the names of Capiz and Aklan. Roxas City is the Province Capital of Capiz, This city was named Roxas City in honor of its most illustrious son, the first president of the Republic of the Philippines, President Manuel Roxas.

 Roxas City Capiz is Famous for its festival Sinadya sa Halaran, It was previously celebrated seperately, Sinadya sa Halaran is celebrated every December 8 and it is celebrated for 3-5 days. Every Sinadya sa Halaran Festival is accompanied with contests and one of the famous contest is the contest of tribes(tribu). Every tribe is compose of drumers and warriors(dancers). they will be judged according to there performance in dancing and playing drums. many tribes joins this competition, some of the tribes are the alikabok tribe, tribu dos, moranthoy tribe, tribu ubay, kauswagan etc. last competition the kauswagan tribe is the winner.

Another Festival Capiz is known for is the Aswang festival which is celebrated towards end of october in keeping with the spirit of all souls day which is celebrated in other places as halloween. in previous years, this festival was greaty disfavored by local church leaders, the parish even proposed a boycott of the festival. they said that it promotes belief in aswang and scares the children. But the true objectives of the festival is first, to reverse the negative image of Capiz as a haven of aswang and remove the stigma attached to the word, Second is to promote economic growth by helping small businesses and the third is to promote Capiz as a good tourist destination by highlighting its famous seafoods products, fine beaches and other local scenery.

The newly opened people’s park of Roxas City Capiz, seems like to be an imitation of the famous bay walk in manila. People are captivated by the new scenery that took over the plain old beach in Roxas City. it was built for the purpose as an attraction for persons who are fund to be outdoors and nature loving. the out louring clear waters, the fresh ocean breeze and the breath taking views are only a few of the many attractions of the said park.

Roxas City is indeed gifted with many wonders and raw beauties that needs to be process in order to become a marvel. it is also gifted with multi talented people with superb intellect gifted with boundless creativity with there imaginations as the limit. still so many gardens of nature in the Province of Capiz are left to be discovered and waiting for human intervention. Nature and Capizeños are working hand in hand to enhance the natural beauty that the divine creator had given to the people to be in there custody. Capizeños are being a good stewards in preserving and enhancing these gifts. Yes this is true among Capizeños and im speaking as an advocate and as a true Capizeño by heart.

  1. You have a very nice and long post here. i like it the way you did this post especially that information that you have provided about the newly opened “People’s Park” in Capiz. This is the first post that I read to be a good one about Capiz. Good Luck to you on your quest as well as mine. been looking around for some of the best blog posts about the contest and I arrived here in yours. BTW, I’ also from Aklan in Buruanga.
